Brigada Eskwela is a schools maintenance program nationwide that engages all education stakeholders to contribute their time, effort and resources in ensuring that all public schools are ready in time for school opening. It is a weeklong event where communities, parents, alumni, civic groups, local businesses, non-government organizations and private individuals, including teacher and student volunteers, devote their time and skills to do repairs and maintenance work in public school

The annual Brigada Eskwela was conceptualized and started in May, 2003. It is one of the flagship project of the Adopt a School Program (ASP) headed by Dir. Paul Soriano. Adopt a School Program was made into law, the Adopt a School Act or the RA 8525 in 1998. Through the ASP, private sector companies and professionals are given the opportunity to contribute in improving the public education system of the country.

Education is the best weapon against poverty. The economic problem of the country is directly related to the quality of the educational system; education must be the concern of every Filipino.

RA 8525 establishes the “Adopt-A-School Program,” which aims to create multiple partnerships with the business sector, foundations, NGOs, private schools, civic organizations and individuals to team up with the Education Department towards providing much needed assistance and service to public schools.
